Tahiti Nui – Big Tahiti - An Island Vacation Adventure

Do you enjoy traveling to new and exotic places around the world?  Do you have a big event coming up like a honeymoon or family vacation to plan for?  Surely you want to visit somewhere you have never been before.  Why not Tahiti?  The island has two distinct portions that are known by two different names.  The portions almost appear to be two separate islands, but are actually connected by a narrow isthmus.  The northern portion is larger and is therefore known as Tahiti Nui, or Big Tahiti.  Likewise, the smaller southern part is called Tahiti Iti, or Small Tahiti.  Both islands have volcanic mountains at their heart with lush green rain forests covering them, as volcanic rock is very fertile.

The small island, when including both Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Iti, is only a little more than 1,000 square kilometers in area and has about 170,000 inhabitants.  It is actually the largest out of all the 118 tiny atolls and islands in the French Polynesian Islands.  These groups of islands, or archipelagos, are located in the South Pacific Ocean, about as far south of the equator as Hawaii is north of it. If you love going on nature hikes where you currently live, you will absolutely love the opportunity to hike or tour via four-by-four through the Tahitian landscape!

The weather on Tahiti Nui is sunny, warm and humid.  Since it is in the southern hemisphere, the summer season is from November to April with temperature rarely exceeding about 93 degrees Fahrenheit.  There really is no such thing as winter on Tahiti, with the lowest temperatures hovering around 61 degrees Fahrenheit.  If you are planning a trip to this gorgeous island, remember that January is the rainiest month of the year there and may consequently not be the best time to visit the shores of Tahiti.

It is difficult to pinpoint exactly the best time of the year to visit the island as it is always gorgeous with hardly variable weather or temperatures.  The moist weather, in the form of rain and humidity, make Tahiti Nui the perfect place for the growth of exotic plants and wildlife.  It is a true paradise teeming with fascinating flora and fauna, excellent accommodations for visitors and a plethora of exciting activities to get involved in.  No matter how long you are able to extend your visit to the shores of Tahiti, you will leave only wanting more!
