If you’re engaged and don’t have any wedding plans yet, but know that you would love to vacation in Fiji, it might be worth your while to think about getting married in Fiji as well. Fiji weddings can be anything from a private affair with no more than the two witnesses required to make it legal to an extravagant celebration in the full Fijian tradition. Many Fiji island resorts also offer wedding packages that can range in price from $1,000 to $1,600, and some even offer their wedding services free if you plan to stay for a minimum length of time.

When choosing between different Fiji weddings, you can certainly choose to go with a Westernized beach wedding. There are many different religions in Fiji, and most of Fiji island resorts are within the vicinity of a variety of officiants, from a Christian pastor to a Catholic priest to a government-appointed officiant. And your beach wedding will often include the fees for your wedding license, a wedding cake, music for the ceremony, and a champagne brunch for the newlyweds the morning after the ceremony, depending on the resort. And, if you like, you can pay a little extra to treat your wedding guests to a sumptuous dinner.

If you’d like a wedding that’s a little farther off the beaten path, consider this: many couples who tie the knot in Fiji opt for full, traditional Fijian weddings. You can rent traditional Fijian wedding garb. Many Fiji island resorts also provide a Fiji warrior escort for the bride and groom, and a Fijian choir to serenade the bridal party. The bride can even ride to the beachside ceremony in a traditional bili bili raft. Guests can then relax while partaking in a traditional lovo, a meal cooked in an earthen oven.

And you don’t have to swing to either end of the pendulum, either. Most Fiji island resorts will accommodate both Western and Fijian weddings, and will even let you pick and choose which aspects of the ceremony and celebration are Western and which are Fijian. You can opt for a Western wedding with a traditional Fijian meal. You can have the full Fijian ceremony and then serve light appetizers with champagne. The scale of your wedding is entirely up to you. Just make sure that you have your birth certificate, passport, and certificate of divorce (if applicable for any previous marriages) and you’ll be well on your way to the tropical wedding of your dreams.
